The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the easier treks in Nepal, making it ideal for trekkers of all experience levels. The route to Mardi Himal Base Camp is relatively straightforward, with no technical climbs or challenging terrain. While you will spend several hours trekking through Nepal’s hills, the overall difficulty is moderate. On a scale of 1 to 10, we would rate the difficulty as a 4. The toughest part of the journey is simply the emotional challenge of saying goodbye to this incredible adventure and returning to everyday life.
The spring season (March to May) is the best time for the Mardi Himal Trek. The weather is perfect, with clear skies and mild temperatures, ideal for trekking. During these months, the landscape is lush, flowers are in bloom, and the fresh grasses and vibrant nature create a picturesque environment.
Another excellent time to trek is during the autumn season (September to November). The weather is similarly clear, though you won't see the blooming rhododendrons that are characteristic of spring. Nonetheless, the views and overall trekking conditions are still outstanding.
Yes, beginners are more than welcome to join the Mardi Himal Trek. This trek is perfect for those who are new to trekking and want to experience Nepal's natural beauty in a less strenuous environment. The route is beginner-friendly, and you can comfortably reach Mardi Himal Base Camp with minimal physical preparation. Most trekkers on this itinerary are first-timers looking for a scenic and accessible trek. The trail is also enjoyable for experienced trekkers, as the views are as stunning as those found on more challenging treks.
At 4,500 meters, altitude sickness is uncommon, but we will take necessary precautions. We schedule rest days at various villages along the way to allow your body to acclimatize to the changing altitude and oxygen levels. It is essential to stay hydrated throughout the trek, as dehydration can contribute to altitude sickness. If you experience symptoms like dizziness or shortness of breath, rest assured that these are typically minor and pass with proper hydration and rest. The change in oxygen levels at this altitude is minimal, so there's no need to worry too much.
Accommodation during your Mardi Himal Trek will be provided, including stays in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara, as well as guesthouses during the trekking portion. The accommodation will be comfortable, with a focus on giving you the best available options in each location.
Meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are included, and you can choose from the menu at each guesthouse. While the selection may be limited in higher-altitude villages, you’ll have the opportunity to try traditional Nepali dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Fresh fruits will be provided after dinner each night.
Please note that snacks, energy bars, and drinks are not included in the package, and these are your responsibility to purchase.
All necessary land transportation during the trek is covered by the Mardi Himal Trek package. We will provide transportation from the airport to your hotel and take you on a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu. At the end of the trek, we will drop you off in Pokhara and also arrange transport to the international airport based on your flight schedule.
Please note that flight expenses (international and regional) are not covered by the package.
To trek the Mardi Himal route, you will need two permits: the Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) Permit and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Permit. These permits support the development and conservation of the region. The cost of these permits is covered as part of your package, and our guides will handle the paperwork for you, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
While you don't need to be a seasoned athlete to undertake the Mardi Himal Trek, we recommend that you prepare physically if you are not typically active. Training for endurance, particularly for your legs, will help you enjoy the trek more comfortably. The trek is accessible to most people, but a basic level of fitness will ensure you don’t feel overly fatigued during the trek.
There are two main alternatives to the standard Mardi Himal Trek. The Ghandruk Mardi Himal trek takes you through the beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk at 2,012 meters before joining the main Mardi Himal trail. The second option is to extend your trek to the Annapurna Base Camp, which follows the same path as Mardi Himal but continues beyond the base camp, adding a few more days to your itinerary.
The Mardi Himal Trek offers excellent value for the services provided, with the cost of the trek being NRs. _______. This price includes all accommodation, meals, permits, and transportation according to the itinerary. You will receive a detailed breakdown of your expenses, with no hidden fees.
All accommodations along the trek offer power outlets for charging devices. However, some guesthouses may charge a small fee for using these outlets. Wi-Fi is available at most guesthouses, but you will be responsible for any charges incurred. For cellular service, the NTC carrier works best in the region, and most of the trek has a reliable network connection.
While the Mardi Himal Trek package covers most of your expenses, there are additional costs you will need to handle personally. These include:
Extra accommodation or meals outside the provided package
Drinks, including alcohol and bottled water
Snacks, energy bars, or personal food items
Your visa fee upon arrival in Kathmandu
Travel and medical insurance
International and regional flight costs
Excess baggage (over 15 kg)
Hot showers in lodges
Tips for guides and porters
Sightseeing tickets in Kathmandu
Charging and Wi-Fi fees
