Trip Overview

Experience the classic beauty of the Himalayas on a 10-day trek through the Langtang region with Mendoo Adventure. This short yet spectacular journey allows you to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of Nepal, offering a chance to explore the true mountains and hills without the need for a 2-3 week commitment.

The Langtang Valley trek takes you through lush river valleys, yak pastures, and remote villages that see fewer tourists than the more popular trekking areas. Located just north of Kathmandu, the valley sits at an elevation of 3400 meters and is surrounded by the enchanting Langtang National Park. Here, you may spot wildlife such as red pandas, langurs, and the Himalayan Thar.

The region is also rich in culture, with the local Tamang and Sherpa communities showcasing their unique skills, traditions, and cuisine, adding depth to your trekking experience. The trek also offers thrilling opportunities for adventure seekers, including traversing the Kyimoshung and Lirung glaciers on your way to Kyanjin Ri's summit. This offers breathtaking views and a chance to test your trekking abilities in a glacial environment.

For those seeking a challenging climb, Tsergo Ri provides an excellent acclimatization opportunity, particularly for those planning to trek to Everest Base Camp. The summit rewards you with panoramic views of the Langtang region, including majestic peaks like Yala, Langtang Ri, Langtang Lirung, Naya Khang, and Gyanghempo.

Available year-round, the 10-day Langtang Region Trek offers a unique chance to experience an authentic side of Nepal, often overlooked in favor of more popular trails like Everest or Annapurna. Whether you're a seasoned trekker or new to the mountains, this adventure is sure to leave you with lasting memories of Nepal's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

Trip Information

Best Time for the 10-Day Langtang Region Trek
Due to its proximity to Kathmandu, the Langtang region experiences a similar climate to the capital, making it a year-round trekking destination. The four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—offer different experiences for trekkers.

  • Spring (March to May): This is one of the best times for the trek, as the weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 25 to 35°C. Langtang Valley comes alive with vibrant rhododendron blooms, and the area enjoys around 9 hours of sunshine daily.

  • Autumn (September to November): Often regarded as the ideal time to trek, autumn offers clear skies, longer days, and pleasant temperatures. The region is festive as Nepal celebrates Dashain and Tihar, adding a cultural charm to your trekking experience.

  • Summer (June to August): The summer months coincide with the monsoon season, bringing heavy rainfall to both Kathmandu and Langtang. This period is less favorable for trekking due to the risk of landslides and slippery trails.

  • Winter (December to February): Winter offers sunny days with mild temperatures around 20°C. Though there is no rainfall, the nights can be chilly. This season is ideal for those who enjoy clear skies and fewer crowds but be prepared for cold temperatures.

Elevation and Distance
The Langtang Valley Trek spans 77 km, including the ascent to either Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) or Tsergo Ri (5,033 m). Langtang Village, situated at 3,400 m, lies about 61.8 km north of Kathmandu. Over the course of this trek, you will cover an average of 10 to 12 km per day, starting from Syabrubesi (122 km from Kathmandu). The highest sleeping point is Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 m.

Daily Walks: Maximum/Minimum Distance
The Langtang Valley trek is characterized by easy, relaxed walking through scenic trails. Most days involve 4 to 7 hours of walking, with the longest stretches on days 3 and 4, when we travel from Syabrubesi to Langtang Village via Lama Hotel. The shortest walk is on Day 5, from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa, taking around 4 to 5 hours. The most challenging day is when we hike to the summit of Tsergo Ri, though it is manageable for most trekkers.

Difficulty Level and Acclimatization
The Langtang Region Trek is considered moderately challenging, graded as Level C, and is ideal for those with basic trekking experience. While you will face no technical difficulties, the high altitude may cause mild symptoms of altitude sickness, which is why we have incorporated two acclimatization days at Kyanjin Gompa. On these rest days, you will take shorter hikes to Kyanjin Ri or Tsergo Ri, which will help your body adjust to the altitude.

Can a Beginner Do the Langtang Valley Trek?
Yes, the Langtang Valley Trek is a great choice for beginners, especially those who are fit and have no significant health issues. The trail is well-maintained, and there is no technical climbing required. The trek is suitable for people of all ages, including families with children or elderly members. It is also a popular choice for couples on their honeymoon due to its serene and beautiful setting.

Preparation and Training
If you are in good health and regularly engage in physical activities, you can do the Langtang trek without any special preparation. However, it is recommended to engage in regular cardio and endurance training, such as running, swimming, or biking, for at least 2-3 months before the trek. Preparing for long hikes (4-5 hours a day) will also help your body adjust to the demands of trekking.

Altitude Sickness
Although altitude sickness is rare during the Langtang trek, it's important to stay hydrated, take things slowly, and follow the guidance of your trek leader. Symptoms of altitude sickness—such as headaches, dizziness, and fatigue—are usually mild and improve with rest. Diamox tablets can help alleviate these symptoms, but the best prevention is gradual acclimatization and a steady pace.

Alternate Routes and Extensions
For those looking to extend their adventure, the Langtang Circuit Trek is an excellent option. This route leads you from Kyanjin Gompa towards Thulo Syabru and then merges with the Gosaikunda trail. You can also choose to extend your trek by adding the Helambu circuit, which takes you from Lama Hotel through Thulo Syabru, Sing Gompa, Gosaikunda Lake, and Laure Binayak La Pass.

Accommodation, Transportation, Meals, and Drinks
During your 10-day trek, transportation will be provided by private vehicle, whether by car, van, jeep, or bus, depending on the group size. You'll travel from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi by private jeep or bus to start the trek, and the same transport will return you to Kathmandu after the trek.

Accommodation in Kathmandu will be in a three-star hotel, with two people sharing a room. Throughout the trek, you'll stay in comfortable teahouses with cozy rooms. Private bathrooms and hot showers are available until Lama Hotel. In Kyanjin Gompa, facilities are more basic with shared bathrooms, and hot showers come with an additional fee.

Meals will be served at teahouses along the route, with breakfast and dinner provided at your lodging and lunch at stops along the trail. Fresh fruits will be available every evening from local Sherpas.

Communication and Charging
In Kathmandu, you can buy and activate an NTC or NCELL SIM card for mobile service. Both providers offer good 4G coverage throughout the Langtang region, ensuring reliable communication. Wi-Fi is available in the teahouses for an additional fee, but the connection can be slow depending on the number of users. Charging your mobile or camera is possible for an extra fee, with varying charges based on the device.

Permits for Langtang Region Trek
For the 10-Day Langtang Region Trek, you will need two essential permits: the Langtang National Park entry permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) permit. These permits will be obtained by your guide in Dunche, on the way to Syabrubesi.

Thank You.
