The Khopra Trek is a relatively new and lesser-known gem in Nepal, with its first lodge established only 12 years ago. Khopra Danda, often mistaken for a traditional village, is a small settlement perched atop a hill at an elevation of 3,660 meters. Located in the Annapurna Conservation Area, this trek offers a pristine and peaceful escape from the crowds, making it perfect for those seeking a more intimate trekking experience.
One of the standout features of the Khopra Trek is Khayer Lake, situated at 4,820 meters. This sacred site draws pilgrims, particularly during the Janai Purnima festival, when devotees take a ceremonial dip in the lake's icy waters to purify themselves and pray for blessings. The spiritual significance of the lake adds a unique cultural dimension to the trek.
The Khopra region is also known for its pastoral beauty. The meadows here are often used by shepherds who bring their yaks to graze. This tranquil landscape, where traditional practices and natural beauty converge, offers an idyllic escape into nature.
A highlight of the Khopra Trek is the vibrant wildflower-filled paths that make this trek truly special. Unlike other treks in Nepal, the trail is lined with colorful wildflowers, adding a magical touch to the journey. The trek provides an experience that immerses you in nature’s untouched beauty, away from the noise and pollution of city life.
For those looking to avoid crowded trails and enjoy a serene experience in the mountains, Khopra is the ideal destination. Our Khopra Trek package offers an affordable way to explore this tranquil region without straining your budget. Whether you’re seeking spiritual fulfillment or simply a peaceful escape, the Khopra Trek guarantees a unique and unforgettable adventure.

Difficulty Level
The Khopra Trek is one of Nepal's more accessible trekking routes, making it an ideal choice for beginners. To give you an idea of its ease, we recently guided a family with an 11-year-old child, and they had no issues, enjoying the trek from start to finish without any complaints.
On a scale of 1 to 10, we rate this trek a 3. The trail is non-technical, meaning no special equipment is required—just a good pair of trekking shoes and poles. While the stone steps along the route can be challenging for some, they are simply stairs, and with regular breaks and proper pacing, they should not pose a significant problem. Additionally, our porters will handle your luggage, so you don’t need to worry about carrying heavy loads.
Best Seasons for the Khopra Trek
The optimal times to embark on the Khopra Trek are spring and autumn. In spring, the blooming wildflowers and vibrant Rhododendron trees provide a colorful backdrop, while the active birdlife—including the national bird of Nepal, the Danphe (Himalayan Monal)—adds to the beauty of the trek.
Autumn is also a great time to go, with clear skies and stunning views of the mountains. While you’ll miss the Rhododendron blooms, you may still spot wildflowers scattered along the hillsides.
We advise against trekking in the monsoon season (June–September), as the trails can be slippery, and leeches are common. While these leeches are harmless, they can be uncomfortable.
Can Beginners Join the Trek?
Absolutely! The Khopra Trek is perfect for beginners. While some treks require prior experience, this one is beginner-friendly, with no prior trekking experience needed. Our experienced guides will ensure you understand the basics and provide any necessary support. If you’re just starting out, you’ll be in great hands!
Altitude Sickness
The highest point of the Khopra Trek is 3,660 m (12,008 ft) at Khopra Danda. This elevation is not typically high enough to cause serious altitude sickness, but you may experience mild symptoms like dizziness. We pace the trek to give your body time to acclimatize, and if you feel unwell, our guide will assist you in descending to a lower altitude. If necessary, emergency services are available, and our team will coordinate air evacuation to the nearest hospital.
Accommodation, Food, and Drink
Accommodation during the Khopra Trek is basic, with tea houses and lodges providing the essentials. While you won't find luxury accommodations, you’ll enjoy clean and simple rooms with welcoming hosts. The trek package covers 3-star hotel stays in Kathmandu and Pokhara, including breakfast.
During the trek, you’ll receive three meals a day, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Tea is provided throughout the day, and fresh fruit is available each evening. On the first two days in Kathmandu and Pokhara, only breakfast is provided.
Please note, drinks (including water) are not covered. However, we provide water purification tablets to ensure you always have access to safe drinking water. You’ll be responsible for purchasing any additional drinks.
Transportation
The trek package covers all land transportation, ensuring a comfortable ride. While you’ll travel by tourist bus for the Kathmandu-Pokhara leg, you can opt for a flight to save time—just note that flight costs are not included in the package.
International and domestic flights are not included in the trekking package.
Khopra Trek Permits
The Khopra Trek passes through the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA), so you’ll need two permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Project Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS). We handle the paperwork, so you don’t have to worry about navigating the permit process. These permits are covered in the trek package and cost approximately USD 50 in total.
Trip Preparation and Fitness
There is no formal training required for the Khopra Trek, as it is one of the easier treks in Nepal. If you have an average level of fitness, you should be well-prepared. If you have not been physically active recently, we recommend doing light exercise (like walking or gym workouts) for a few weeks prior to the trek. This will help you build stamina and ensure a smoother experience.

The Khopra Trek package is priced at $999 per person, with a minimum of two participants required. The package includes:
