Ama Dablam (6,856m), located in the Khumbu Himal on the route to Everest Base Camp, is one of the most stunning mountains in the Himalayas. The name "Ama Dablam" translates to "Mother’s Necklace" in the Sherpa language, symbolizing the mountain's unique shape. The ridges on each side resemble the protective arms of a mother (ama), while the hanging glacier below the summit represents the dablam, a traditional double-pendant worn by Sherpa women containing pictures of gods.
First summited in 1961 by an Anglo-American/New Zealand team, Ama Dablam is considered a challenging climb that requires technical skills in ice and rock climbing. The standard route is the Southwest Ridge, which involves rock climbing, followed by ice climbing and a steep snow slope leading to the summit. Due to the technical nature of the ascent, 3,500m of fixed ropes are needed, along with three camps above the base camp.
The approach to Ama Dablam offers climbers spectacular views, and the Base Camp, situated in a beautiful meadow with a stream, provides a stunning backdrop. From here, climbers can enjoy panoramic views of Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, and Everest. The summit also offers close-up views of Nuptse, Baruntse, and Pumori.
While the climb typically takes less than four weeks, we add a few extra days to accommodate potential bad weather, ensuring a safe and successful ascent.
